On June 8 and 9, with the kind organizational support of GIZ Albania, a two-day workshop for the further development of the High Scardus Trail took place at the new headquarters of GIZ Albania in Tirana. In total, the Trail Angels and GIZ welcomed 15 participants from all three project countries (KOS; MKD; ALB) and from different sectors. At the beginning of the workshop, the Albanian Deputy Minister of Tourism and Environmental Protection Vilma Bello informed herself about the goals and status quo of this lighthouse project, which is so important especially for Albania. The aim of the workshop was to jointly create the prerequisites for the future organizational structure and for inquiry and booking management and to set binding milestones for their implementation. In particular, this is intended to ensure autonomous management and design of the High Scardus Trail and to take the first step towards a trinational destination for sustainable mountain tourism.

This should make this still unknown but immensely impressive mountain region accessible for sustainable tourism and ensure the highest possible added value for the local population.

The event concluded with a meeting with the recognized foundation PONT (Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust) to discuss possibilities for future cooperation, especially between protected areas and sustainable tourism.

One of the next big activities within the project is the very special Explorer Tour from September 7 – 17, for which there are still a few remaining places. More info here: Fair Trails® Explorer Tour

We, the Trail Angels, would like to thank all participants and stakeholders who worked together with us in such a motivated way. It is always remarkable what an ambitious team can achieve in a short time and makes us strengthened to continue working on this fantastic, trinational project. We are already looking forward to the next workshop, which will start in two weeks. This time (unfortunately) online again from our homebase.
