Live from the Himalayas (1): Fair Trails Exploration
Enjoyable start to an eventful Fair Trails exploration: The Fair Trails exploration team with Trail Angels Günter Mussnigam “Kathmandu Food Trail” ©Trail Angels
Raj Gyawali, owner of Social Tours, one of our Fair Trails partner agencies in Nepal, had the brilliant idea: A trail, close to the life of the people in the villages, off the beaten track, accompanied by an expert who and the whole cultural and I culinary diversity of these villages. The ideal region was soon found in the Chepang region in the foothills of the Himalayas, and our ideal expert in Prashanta Khamal. Prashanta Khamal is a young but already well-established food blogger in Nepal, who also owns Raithane, a fascinating restaurant in Patan that specializes in Nepal’s culinary heritage. More will be said about that later

At the start, so to speak, our exploration team (in addition to Prashanta and me, Saurabh Battharai, our project manager for Fair Trails Himalayas and Peter Scheuch from our partner agency ENNOVENT dived into authentic Kathmandu at the invitation and guided by Raj. This fascinating trail is called the “Kathmandu Food Trail”. Tour that is also a real firework of tastes.

The traditional market in Ason, once a stopping point on the historic salt route from Tibet to India, the Newari Snack House in the fascinating hill town of Kirtipur above Kathmandu and the royal city of Patan with the Raithane Restaurant are the highlights of this tour. Tomorrow we will start our exploration and whenever the opportunity (WIFI) presents itself, we will report about it.
