Flying Without Wings
The title of Tiziano Terzani’s bestseller could not describe our appearance at this year’s ITB Berlin any better! As Trail Angels, we are skipping the fair this year due to a heavy workload—while several of our projects are celebrating their premiere at the exhibition.
Anyone who has checked our website over the past few months will have noticed that not much did happen there. The reason is simple: on the one hand, new projects and team transitions have kept us extremely busy. On the other hand, we are working with our “neighbors,” the Büro für Gestaltung, on a website update. Our goal was to communicate clearly and concisely what we do (that´s not always easy!), what we offer, and which projects we are currently developing. For the website relaunch a big thank‑you to Susanne Keuschnig and her partners at Büro für Gestaltung!
Skipping ITB this year was not an easy decision—after all, the exchange with clients, project partners, and like‑minded people in sustainable tourism is always inspiring. But the current workload left us no choice. All the more proud we are to be represented at the fair with three premiere projects. Here is a short overview:
Hohe Tauern Bike Trail

This new mountain bike trail, covering 14 stages, was developed on behalf of and in close collaboration with Ferienregion Nationalpark Hohe Tauern and all associated tourism boards between Hüttschlag and Königsleiten The Hohe Tauern Bike Trail aims not only to become a leading product for biking in the Salzburg National Park region, but also has the potential to become a true classic for moderate mountain and gravel biking.
Rail & Trail – Train‑Based Hiking in Carinthia

With the opening of the Koralm Tunnel, Kärnten Werbung is placing an even stronger focus on the train as an environmentally friendly and stress‑free way to travel to Carinthia. As one of the flagship products within this initiative, “Rail & Trail” brings together more than 100 hikes starting directly from train stations. Our task as Trail Angels was to transform this universe of hiking tours into bookable products—both for individual travelers and for specialized tour operators.
Alpina Antica Trail

Crossing the Alps remains one of the great dreams for long-distance hikers. And when the route follows historical trade paths from the Bavarian Alpine foothills across Alpine passes all the way to the Adriatic coast, it becomes a very special experience: hiking in the footsteps of ancient pack traders. The Alpina Antica Trail was created within the framework of an Interreg project, driven forward by a working group led by tourism board of Mittersill, resulting in a magnificent new Alpine crossing far away from well-trodden paths.
Official Booking Center
What do these three very different projects have in common? We Trail Angels once again go “The Way Beyond.” As the Official Booking Center, we will manage these promising flagships of sustainable outdoor tourism professionally, responsibly, and with long-term resilience. In line with our guiding principle:
“In everything you do, consider the end—that is sustainability.” (Erich Schweitzer)
REMOTE Alliance: Sustainability Lounge
Speaking of sustainability: our alliance for responsible tourism in countries of the Global South—created in cooperation with mascontour® and outdooractive®—remains active. To be ensured, take a visit to the Sustainability Lounge at ITB, managed by mascontour. It´s definitely worthwhile!
