The wonderful lightness of being Sweet comfort on the Drava Bike Trail

12. Jun. 2019

I pedal four/five times and HUUIII - it' s crazy how the e-bike goes off! Not like a Ferrari, where I would cause an accident by tapping the gas pedal, but rather soft and powerful like a Bentley. It' not that I will ever drive one of those two cars in my life, but that' s how I think it is.

I’m on my way along the Drava bike trail (called “Drauradweg” by the locals) – with a rented E-Bike. Out and about to have a different holiday. Usually I go from hut to hut or am privately or as a mountain guide on the high mountains, but this time I follow the magic of the river with my wife and children. I just want to try out what our guests on the Drava bike trail praise so highly – usually I am responsible at bookyourtrail.com for the more alpine activities. But this time I have all the amenities – I just want to relax and be worry-free on the run with bookyourtrail.com. Not a heavily packed bike, only light day luggage – the rest is waiting for us in the hotel, delivered by the luggage transport. Nice and comfortable hotels await us, we just want to have a good time. And if something unforeseen should really happen, then we can still call the hotline of Bookyourtrail.com.

And I must say I am very enthusiastic about the bike trip along the Drauradweg! The start in Innichen at the edge of the Dolomites is spectacular. Equally impressive is the first stage destination, the small town of Lienz at the foot of the rugged Dolomites of Lienz. And in between – a wonderfully easy and lively cycle tour in the middle of an awesome alpine landscape. All the way along the natural waterway of the Drava river, always on well paved bike trails off the beaten track. And the good thing about it is: despite the surrounding towering mountains, we don’t have to climb many meters. All in all, our bikes even roll downhill like the water in the Drava river.

After Lienz the landscape becomes a little more mellow without losing its alpine character. The still deeply carved valley of the Drava river takes you to the next two destinations, the town of Spittal and the larger town of Villach. From Villach to your destination at the Klopeiner See, the valley widens into a basin and the more gentle scenery will make you look forward to a swim in the Klopeiner See, our destination after four enjoyable stages on the Drauradweg.

I’m sure we’ll go on more vacations like this in the future. Because it is not the unbearable lightness of being, as the title of a famous book and film says – a bike trip along the Drauradweg with all the services is the wonderful lightness of being. Here you can find all important information about cycling with comfort on the Drauradweg and all important information about the Drauradweg.
