Live from the Himalayas (6): A lookout: The Snow Leopard Trail

29. Apr. 2019

The second exploration of the Trail Angels on the Snow Leopard Trail is done. Now the results are being worked out. Find out what will follow here!

So far and yet so close: You probably won’t get to see the snow leopard in the wild, but you’ll be on the trail of this wonderful creature in the truest sense of the word on the Snow Leopard Trail © Trail Angels/Josef Essl

With our experience of 25 years in the Himalayas, it was obvious that with www.bookyourtrail.com we would also pay special attention to the countries in the Himalayas. But it was never our claim just to act as another tour operator for trekking tours in Nepal, Bhutan or India. From the very beginning, we wanted to contribute to the sustainable development of the mountain regions – for those who cannot yet generate value from tourism. This is how the idea for “Fair Trails Himalayas” was born.

    Fair Trails Himalayas
Fair Trails Himalayas is a joint venture that combines the strengths of the Trail Angels (trail developers and specialized tour operators) with those of our partner agency ENNOVENT (development cooperation specialists). With Fair Trails Himalayas we pursue the following goals:
    • Development of sustainable trekking tourism in the Himalayas. This requires transparent sustainability criteria to be met by both trekking agencies and tour operators
    • Development of sustainably managed trails, especially in less developed mountain regions, each dedicated to a specific topic
    • Extension of the Fair Trails network in order to achieve the strongest possible longterm impact in the countries of the Himalayas
    • Support of selected ecological and social projects along these trails through the achieved booking turnover
    • Last but not least: A trekking experience which only becomes accessible to you through Fair Trails Himalayas.

Further offers for the Annapurna region (Annapurna Circuit; Kopra Trek) are also expected to “go live” in the summer of 2019 at www.bookyourtrail.com.

Fair Trails Himalayas is co-financed by the Austrian Development Agency, the official development cooperation agency of the Republic of Austria.

    What awaits you now
Currently, the results of the exploration tour are being diligently processed. As things stand, the Snow Leopard Trail will then be bookable as the first “Fair Trail” in late summer 2019 via www.bookyourtrail.com. At the same time, research for the next Fair Trail is already underway. Together with our partners we have already worked out a fascinating short list.
